Highland Park Master Bathroom Remodel: Builder Grade to Luxury Oasis
Share
At Lotus Home Improvement, we recently had the pleasure of transforming an outdated bathroom in Highland Park, IL, into a sleek, modern oasis. This bathroom renovation showcases our commitment to premium quality, thoughtful design, and expert installation, demonstrating why we're Chicago's northern suburbs trusted choice for home remodeling projects such as this recent Kitchen remodel in Highland Park.
Project Overview
Our clients envisioned a minimalist yet luxurious bathroom with clean lines, sophisticated materials, and a calming ambiance. They wanted a space that not only looked elegant but also met their functional needs, blending contemporary style with enduring quality.
Before: Builder Grade & Boxed-In
This Highland Park family’s home was beautiful but came with a master bathroom that screamed “late 90s builder grade.” A massive jetted tub took up precious space, while the shower—the most-used feature—was tiny, boxed-in, and made of low-end materials. Oak cabinetry and dated finishes left the room feeling dark and uninspired.

During: Rebuilding for a Custom Layout
We completely reimagined the footprint of this dark and dated bathroom. The new design featured a spacious walk-in shower with a pony wall, updated plumbing and insulation, and a chandelier over the new soaking tub for spa-like ambiance.
Even before opening our local Lotus showroom, we guided homeowners through tile selections — now clients can browse right here in our Grayslake showroom, family-owned and priced competitively with big-box stores.
Tailored Solutions
To address these issues, our installation team, managed by the magnificent Marcus Johnson (who just so happens to be my husband wink, wink), worked closely with the homeowners to devise a plan that would optimize both light and space. Here’s how we approached each challenge:

Every detail, from framing to waterproofing, was carefully executed to elevate the space into a true retreat.
Maximizing Light and Space: We installed a frameless glass shower enclosure to open up the space visually, making the bathroom feel more expansive. For added brightness, we incorporated LED recessed lighting, a chandelier over the bathtub and new modern over the mirror vanity lights.

Functional Layout Adjustments: To streamline the flow, we relocated the bathtub and created a custom shower space, creating more visible floor space to enhance the modern aesthetic. Our team reconfigured the plumbing to allow for a rainfall shower head and handheld fixture, balancing luxury with practical usability.

The soaking tub and chandelier create a centerpiece moment while adding light and elegance.
High-Quality, Modern Materials: Every detail in this bathroom renovation was chosen with longevity and elegance in mind. We used premium large-format porcelain tiles for the floors and walls, which minimized grout lines for a sleek, continuous look. To keep the aesthetic clean and modern, we chose matte black fixtures that pop against the neutral palette, adding a sophisticated edge.
Design & Material Details
Flooring and Walls: We selected wood-looking floor tiles in a soft, warm medium brown to cover the floors, and in the shower, a large format 12x24 glossy tile was used in a horizontal pattern combined with an accent pop of color glass tile to add warmth and dimension to the space. This wrapped around to the soaking tub, bringing cohesive design to this Highland Park Master Bath renovation. This choice not only offers a seamless look but is also water-resistant and easy to maintain.

A wood-look porcelain tile floor and wood bench accents add warmth and natural texture.
Vanity and Countertop: A 60" gray vanity with a white quartz countertop was installed to add a touch of elegance without overwhelming the space. The sleek lines of the vanity and the soft, natural lighting reflect a modern, minimalist design vibe.

Matte black fixtures and a painted vanity bring a modern edge while keeping the bathroom timeless.
Fixtures: The matte black faucet, showerhead, and matching hardware bring a sense of cohesion to the space. These high-end fixtures not only complement the design but are built for durability, providing the perfect balance of style and substance.
Storage Solutions: A custom-built recessed niche in the shower area provides storage for bath essentials, keeping surfaces clutter-free and maintaining the clean, minimalist design.

The new custom shower is spacious, bright, and fully waterproofed, with tile details that balance style and function.
After: A Spa-Like Master Retreat
The final design features a soaking tub framed by a chandelier, a custom walk-in shower with pony wall and glass enclosure, matte black fixtures, and a painted vanity for contrast. A wood-look porcelain floor ties it all together with warmth and durability.
